This beautiful estate wine initial pour is fruit forward with red fruit aromas.  Black cherries and currant are some additional notes followed by blueberries and blackberries for this lovely red wine. You might pick up hints of vanilla, as well. It is smooth and elegant on the palate with medium tannins and a touch of spice on the finish. This easy drinking Cab is a treat to enjoy both with and without a food pairing. Cheers!

Sourced from the Lodi AVA, this bold Cabernet pours a rich garnet color with some decent dark fruit notes.  Letting this 14% abv red wine sit for about 45 minutes seems to do the trick for optimal tasting. It has a stronger oak profile on the palate and some firm tannins.  Plums and raspberries will greet your senses as you sip and savor this bold beauty.  It is dry and a bit high on the acid side. Pair this bad beast with charcuterie trays as it pairs nicely with meat and cheese.  Cheers!

Klingons have always been one of the top fan favorites of the Star Trek world. Whether they play the friend or foe, you know it will be a good episode. Perhaps one of the iconic drinks of their race has been the Klingon Bloodwine. The Trek world version has been described as perhaps too potent for most non-Klingons to drink but was always used to toast to a great victory. This 2018 earthly version is crafted by the E2 Family Winery using Cabernet Sauvignon and does clock in at a respectable 14.5% abv. The bottle has an interesting dark red design along with a dipped wax finish.  The top of the cork has the iconic Klingon symbol along with a proverb on the side written in Klingon.  Pouring this wine was a delight as it showed a deep ruby red hue with very intense aromas. Perhaps dark chocolate is the most prevalent note to this bottle, along with good acids and a very long finish. It might be tight at first, so let it breathe for an hour. This wine was created to last, so if you have extra bottles, they are keepers for sure in the cellar. Enjoy this one well, earthlings. “IwlIj jachjaj!”

Wine grapes sourced from the classic Bell Mountain AVA…a special treat for sure!  This vintage was well nurtured and cared for by the William & Chris team. The semi opaque red color pour is a delight to behold. Rich blackberries and dark cherries will be the dominate notes to delight your wine senses. It’s got a smooth texture, moderate acids, and a robust feel.  A medium bodied beauty to enjoy and reminiscent of how great 2017 was for Texas. Cheers!

It’s interesting to see how well certain wines did in different regions of Texas during the fantastic 2017 year.  This Cab was sourced from Marallan Oak Vineyard which is in the eastern part of the Texas Hill Country AVA. After that initial pour, you will note a bit of spice on the nose in addition to rich dark fruit. After doing a swirl, sip and repeat, those notes of blueberries and cherries start to envelop your taste buds.  Yes, there is a little bit of plum in there too for this medium bodied red wine.  The tannins are about a half notch below moderate, and the finish is smooth. Very nicely done. Cheers!

What a special treat it is to enjoy a wine from the oldest winery in North America. This 2018 Rosé was made from Cabernet Sauvignon. Those initial notes of strawberries and apricots really leave you anticipating a great wine for the summer months. There might be some peach in there as well for that added dimension, but you will no doubt experience the pleasure of sipping this refreshing fruity Rosé. There is a distinct minerality to this jewel, too, which adds to the complexity of this beauty. With moderate acidity and a touch of lemon, this chilled jewel is worth every sip on a sweltering afternoon and pairs well with cheese plates, salads, and spring and summer dishes. The longer the wine is in the glass the more those strawberry notes really come alive. Cheers!

With a mix of fruit from the Texas High Plains and Hill Country, the best of both AVAs comes alive in this reserve Cabernet. This wine also includes just a bit of Cabernet Franc and Tannat in this French aged oak jewel.  Black cherries and leather are on the nose followed by some white pepper. The vanilla and hints of coffee certainly delight the palate with firm tannins rounding out the flavor profile.  The acids are holding at a strong moderate, as well.  Mark this one as another fantastic renowned 2017 Texas vintage and a great compliment to their 25th anniversary.  You can probably still hold for a few more years for added enjoyment. Cheer!

This light ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon is an easy wine for many Cab lovers to sip and enjoy.  Sourced from The Family Vineyard of the Texas High Plains AVA, aromas of cranberry and dark fruit are quite noticeable. It does present as slightly hot, but those pronounced notes of smoke and tobacco will entice you for more. Cherry and raspberry flavors tantalize the palate and are joined by a touch a spice. It has bright acids, medium tannins, and a relatively smooth finish.  This first cabernet release from the winery is a good meat, cheese, or dark chocolate pairing wine for the evening. Cheers!

Sourced from the North Coast AVA, this estate grown wine is a beautiful beast to savor. With a little franc and malbec added to this lovely blend (82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cab Franc, and 9% Malbec), this bold red wine is still tasting quite young.  Cedar and mocha are the predominate notes that greet you followed by rich, ripe blackberries.  It is very dry, so not for the faint of heart. That mouth gripping feel will certainly please the serious red wine lover in you and that extra-long finish will only entice you to come back for more.  Keep that other bottle or two around longer, because this show will only get better with time.  Simply lovely and Cheers!

Going “back in time” a bit for a Texas wine is always a great treat. This 2009 Cabernet from McPherson is holding up well over the years.  The cork is intact, no funkiness or vulgar vinegar smell. We might have lucked out, but our cellar has proven to do wonders in keeping a nice library stock of Texas wines.  It is a clean red wine and still easy to drink.  You will want to let it breathe for about an hour or so to properly unfold. At the first pour, it looks like a somewhat translucent ruby red color, yet still holding most of its vibrant hue well. There are discernable cherry notes and good fruit flavors hanging in with the moderate acids and tannins. It has a slightly tantalizing finish to round things out.  Pretty darn good for an ol’gal. Not sure if anyone else still has any bottles cellaring, but if you do, still very enjoyable!
